The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has confirmed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will hold today, Tuesday, in Abuja, as scheduled.
Damagum spoke with journalists after an extraordinary caucus meeting held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge. He stressed that the party remained united and ready to tackle key issues.
“We just finished the extraordinary caucus meeting. We are moving to Legacy House for our NEC meeting,” Damagum said.
According to him, it would be more appropriate to brief the media after the NEC concludes its deliberations.
Initially, the PDP planned to host the NEC meeting at Wadata Plaza, its national secretariat. However, the Federal Capital Territory Administration sealed the building due to 28 years of unpaid ground rent.
As a result, the party shifted the meeting to Legacy House, its presidential campaign office located in Maitama, Abuja. The session is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
By midday, several NEC members had already arrived at Legacy House. The meeting is expected to address party unity, internal reforms, and strategies for future elections.
Notably, the NEC remains one of the party’s top decision-making bodies. It includes the national chairman, National Working Committee (NWC), elected governors, and current and former top national leaders.
Additionally, the Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman and secretary, National Assembly leaders, former governors, and founding members participate in the committee.
Earlier in the day, the PDP caucus meeting drew several high-profile attendees. These included PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Sen. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).
Also present were BoT Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, BoT Secretary, Ahmed Makarfi, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
In addition, Chief Bode George, former National Chairman Uche Secondus, and South-South Caretaker Chairman Emmanuel Ogidi attended alongside other NWC members and former governors.
NEC to Decide PDP’s Path Forward
Importantly, today’s NEC meeting comes at a time when the party must reposition itself for national relevance.
Members are expected to review recent challenges and propose new strategies to strengthen the party’s internal structure.
Moreover, the NEC will likely focus on reconciliation efforts, unity among factions, and preparation for upcoming political contests.
With high-level participation and renewed focus, the outcomes of today’s meeting may define PDP’s future trajectory.
