Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has honoured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by naming a major road after him. The newly named road leads directly into the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.

Dangote made the announcement on Thursday during the commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road. The road links the Dangote Fertiliser Plant to Eleko Junction in Lagos State.

Dangote Credits Tinubu for Refinery Progress

While addressing guests, Dangote described Tinubu as the brain behind the refinery’s success.

“The Dangote refinery complex is in many ways your brainchild,” he told the President.

He then revealed the honour.
“Mr President, the main road going into our refinery is now going to be called Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road,” Dangote announced.

The crowd responded with applause. Tinubu stood up and shook hands with the billionaire in appreciation.

Dangote praised Tinubu for showing bold and decisive leadership. He said the administration had restored confidence in the private sector.

“Mr President, you are a very courageous leader. Please continue the great work you are doing,” he said.

He added that the President’s support had inspired his company to do even more.

“This has given us the confidence to support your government further,” Dangote added.

Dangote revealed that the newly named road is just one of eight major projects. Together, they cover a total of 500 kilometres.

Two of those roads are located in Borno State. They will link Nigeria with Chad and Cameroon, boosting regional trade.

The Lagos access road passes through Epe–Ijebu-Ode and connects to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway. It plays a vital role in transporting goods and materials from the refinery.

This move highlights the growing collaboration between government and private industry. Dangote’s projects aim to support Nigeria’s economic development.

The refinery, one of the largest in the world, can refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Once fully operational, it will reduce fuel imports, create jobs, and strengthen the local economy.

Symbol of Appreciation and Vision

For many, naming the road after Tinubu shows deep appreciation. It also reflects a shared vision for Nigeria’s future.

The event ended on a high note, with renewed hope for infrastructure growth and national progress.
