As the 2026 governorship race approaches, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has gained a significant boost. Adeshina Lawal, known as ‘Da Silva’—a leading Social Democratic Party (SDP) figure and former House of Assembly candidate, officially defected to the ruling party.

Leading his supporters to the APC secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, Lawal received a warm welcome from party leaders and officials.

“I’m Back Home,” Says Lawal

Addressing journalists, Lawal explained that Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s inclusive leadership inspired his return.

“I truly feel at home again,” he said. “The APC has always been my political family, and my relatives have deep roots here.”

Moreover, he clarified that his defection was motivated by service, not personal ambition. “I joined APC to help the party succeed and to serve our people,” he stated.

He added, “I am not here to reap where I did not sow. The current administration’s focus on the people aligns with my goals.”

Accompanied by his ward chairman, Tolu Fakorede, and other local government executives, Lawal pledged loyalty to APC. Observers believe this move could shift political dynamics, especially in Ado-Ekiti.

Furthermore, his defection signals growing momentum for APC ahead of 2026.

Hon. Sola Elesin, APC State Chairman, expressed delight at Lawal’s decision and assured equal treatment for all members.

“In APC, everyone matters,” Elesin affirmed. “You now belong to a party that values fairness and inclusion.”

He encouraged the new members to uphold APC’s principles and strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, praised Lawal’s move as a major achievement for APC.

“He has always been one of us,” Olatunbosun said. “His return strengthens our party and sends a strong message to the opposition.”

He further noted that Lawal’s humanitarian work and youth appeal would energize the party’s base.

A New Chapter in Ekiti Politics

Lawal’s defection excited APC supporters across the state. His stronghold in Ado-Ekiti is expected to follow his lead.

With the party aiming to keep the governorship seat in 2026, insiders anticipate more defections soon.

In summary, Lawal’s return could reshape Ekiti’s political landscape and boost APC’s prospects.
