Tinubu Arrives in Japan for Tokyo International Conference on African Development

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). The high-level event will take place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, 2025.

On Monday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and senior Japanese officials welcomed the Nigerian leader in Tokyo. Tinubu, who departed Abuja on August 15, made a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan. He is accompanied by top ministers and special advisers.

According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will engage in plenary sessions focused on Africa’s sustainable growth and development. The Nigerian delegation will also discuss energy, trade, and infrastructure partnerships.

Beyond the official sessions, the President will meet with Japanese business executives whose companies are already investing in Nigeria. These discussions aim to strengthen bilateral ties and attract fresh investments into the Nigerian economy.

State Visit to Brazil After Japan

After completing his engagements in Japan, President Tinubu will continue to Brazil for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25. He will be received by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília.

During the visit, Tinubu will hold bilateral talks with his Brazilian counterpart and participate in a business forum designed to expand trade and investment opportunities between both nations.
