Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has urged Abuja-based political critics to return home and see the remarkable transformation taking place across the state.

Speaking at the August 2025 edition of his monthly media chat, “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians,” held at Government House, Umuahia, Otti dismissed allegations of financial mismanagement. He described them as baseless and politically motivated attempts to mislead the public.

The governor responded to accusations from former Information Commissioner Eze Chikamnayo, who claimed funds meant for school renovations had been diverted.

Otti clarified that his administration has already invested ₦14.43 billion in renovating 61 public schools as of June 2025. He explained that all figures remain verifiable through the World Bank’s State Fiscal Accountability and Sustainability (SFAS) Programme, which requires states to publish budget performance online.

He further emphasized transparency by noting that the audited financial statement for December 31, 2024, is available on the Abia State Government website. “When someone claims ₦54 billion is missing, he is simply addressing the wrong government,” Otti said.

To strengthen his defense, Otti challenged Chikamnayo to visit Umunneochi, his local government area, where five schools are undergoing renovation.

“Instead of spreading falsehoods from Abuja, let him come home and confirm our work directly,” the governor declared.

He added that Chikamnayo has repeatedly attempted to blackmail past governments for personal gain. According to Otti, such tactics no longer succeed in Abia.

A New Era of Accountability

The governor revealed that Chikamnayo once sought to join his administration, but he firmly rejected the request. “This government will never negotiate with blackmailers,” Otti insisted.

He criticized those backing Chikamnayo’s Abuja press conference, describing their choice of spokesman as unfortunate and unreliable.

To reassure Abians, Otti outlined strict financial safeguards. He explained that contractors must provide advance payment guarantees, ensuring funds stay within government control until projects are completed.

Otti Reaffirms Labour Party Loyalty

Finally, the governor addressed rumors about his political affiliation. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party and emphasized that his priority remains delivering good governance.

“Abia is already changing for the better. Anyone still in doubt should return home and see the evidence themselves,” Otti concluded.
