The Lagos State Police Command has re-arrested a 25-year-old ex-convict barely five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. Two other suspects were also detained for various crimes across the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, noting that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
According to Adebisi, the ex-convict was nabbed around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Oshodi Market after officers noticed his suspicious movements.
“He was found with N80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro phone, both traced to a burglary incident in Opebi, where he allegedly stole N200,000 and the device from a sleeping trader,” she said.
Police also recovered clothes and shoes the suspect reportedly purchased with part of the stolen funds.
In a separate operation, Adebisi said RRS operatives arrested two suspected pickpockets, aged 21 and 27, for attempting to snatch mobile phones from commuters in crowded areas of Lagos.
“The suspects, known for targeting commuters during rush hours, were caught before they could escape. Recovered items have since been returned to their rightful owners,” she added.
All three suspects are currently being held at the RRS headquarters and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, commended the RRS team for their swift response and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the command’s dedication to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention, assuring residents that efforts to rid Lagos of criminal elements remain a top priority.
