Fidelity Bank Plc has demonstrated its strong commitment to community development by donating food packs to more than 1,500 people in Ihie Town, Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State. The donation was part of the bank’s Food Bank initiative.

Mr. Ibisiki Eretoru, Regional Bank Head for Rivers/Bayelsa 1 & South Commercial, said the bank’s success depends on the well-being of its host communities. “We use the Food Bank Initiative to support our communities through regular food aid,” he explained. “Every month, we partner with dedicated organizations to distribute food packs across Nigeria.”

Food Bank Initiative Supports Hunger Alleviation and Sustainable Development

Launched in April 2023, the Food Bank initiative helps fight hunger and improve livelihoods nationwide. The program aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to end hunger.

Mr. Eretoru added, “We have distributed over 200,000 food packs so far. Our goal is to empower individuals and transform local economies.”

Fidelity Bank partnered with The Reach Nigeria Foundation to execute the Ihie distribution. The foundation’s CEO, Benedicta Ibiyemie Ayarete, explained why they chose Ihie. “Even though Ihie is an agricultural community, many families face food shortages during the post-planting, pre-harvest period,” she said. “The community’s peaceful environment also supports Fidelity Bank’s ongoing presence.”

His Royal Highness, Eze Richard Amadi, the paramount ruler of Ihie, thanked the bank for its timely help. He called the donation “a stitch in time” that meets urgent community needs.

Mr. Stephen Asoh, Chairman of the Ihie Community Development Committee, also expressed appreciation for the bank’s generosity. Beneficiary Mike Okere praised Fidelity Bank’s efforts and urged other banks to follow their example.

Fidelity Bank continues to offer hope to underserved communities. Its social responsibility programs drive inclusive growth across Nigeria.

Serving over 9.1 million customers, Fidelity Bank operates 255 branches in Nigeria and a subsidiary in the UK. The bank has earned many awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award, and recognition as Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria by Euromoney.
