Popular Nigerian singer, Aituaje Vivian Ebele Iruobe, famously known as Waje, has shared her past struggles with body image and how she learned to love herself.
The 44-year-old vocalist made this disclosure during a recent episode of the Her Next Chapter podcast with host Tope Olowoniyan.
Waje revealed that in her 20s, she felt very uncomfortable with her physical appearance. To hide her natural physique, she resorted to wearing multiple layers of undergarments.
“In my 20s, I used to wear like three bras. I used to be very uncomfortable about how heavy I was at the top,” she said.
The music star explained that she eventually grew out of those insecurities and became more confident. She noted that becoming a mother played a big role in how she views and accepts her body today.
The singer also credited her close friends, including rapper M.I Abaga and star dancer Kaffy, for helping her build self-confidence. She added that their support helped her develop a “thick skin” against negative comments from others.
