President Bola Tinubu has called on the newly crowned Owa Obokun Adimula, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, to lead with wisdom and serve as a unifying figure in Ijesaland. Speaking during Oba Haastrup’s coronation in Ijesaland on Friday, Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, highlighted the vital role of traditional rulers in driving peace and national progress.

The event drew prominent figures such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, and Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State. Also present were business leader Dr. Deji Adeleke, and former governors Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Rauf Aregbesola.

Royal fathers including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Oluwo of Iwoland, and Soun of Ogbomoso, among others, also attended.

Oyetola praised the new monarch’s humility, intellect, and strength. He expressed confidence that Oba Haastrup would protect Ijesaland’s heritage and inspire its development.

“Ijesaland remains a beacon of excellence and honor,” President Tinubu stated. “We will continue to support the region through projects in infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture.”

Adeleke Highlights Infrastructure, Education, and Mining Reforms

Governor Adeleke congratulated the monarch and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to regional growth. He revealed that Ilesa is now a university town with over 50 accredited courses. The General Hospital, Ilesa, has also been approved as the teaching hospital for the University of Ilesa.

Adeleke noted the near completion of the 12-kilometer Ereja Square–Brewery Junction dual carriageway. He highlighted its potential to boost commerce and tourism in the area.

On mining reforms, the governor announced that Osun is now a shareholder in Thor Exploration, operators of the Segilola Gold Project. He said this move ensures more benefits for the state and combats illegal mining.

“Our development vision extends to every part of Osun, from Ijesaland to Igbomina land,” Adeleke added.

Market activities in Ilesa came to a halt as traders shut shops in honor of the coronation. Residents and guests filled the Owa’s palace in a colorful celebration.

A strong security presence, including the police, military, Amotekun Corps, and DSS, maintained order throughout the event. Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress, led by Aare Ona Kakanfo Chief Gani Adams, also joined the festivities.
