Nigerian TikToker and livestreamer, Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, has strongly addressed the growing influx of comments from fans of detained social media activist Verydarkman on his page.
During a recent live session, the 19-year-old became visibly agitated as viewers bombarded his comment section with calls for Verydarkman’s release. The outburst comes after he had previously warned against using his platform to push anti-government messages, especially during the now-viral #30DaysRantChallenge.
Reacting to the situation, Peller said:
“Hey, Free VDM in my own comment section. Bro, no be me be EFCC ana. Please leave here, you’re now putting crying emoji. If dem ban me, I go change am for you.”
He expressed concern that continued activism on his livestream could lead to the suspension or banning of his account by TikTok’s moderators. This fear has grown as the hashtag #FreeVDM gains momentum, with many of Verydarkman’s supporters using it to flood popular content creators’ pages.
Although Peller’s reaction may seem defensive, it highlights the ongoing challenge influencers face: supporting causes they care about without violating platform rules. To clarify his stance, he noted in the video that he had already addressed the matter on TikTok and believes Verydarkman will soon be released.
As the #FreeVDM campaign spreads, influencers like Peller must find ways to balance advocacy with content protection. Clearly, this situation underscores the double-edged nature of social media visibility.
