The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has revealed that the party is working towards bringing back Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, into its ranks.

Naija News recalls that ahead of the 2023 general election, Obi, who was previously the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate, left the party to join the Labour Party. He secured the LP’s presidential ticket and contested against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In the election, Peter Obi won 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, but finished third behind Atiku and the eventual winner, Tinubu, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Abdullahi described the former Anambra State Governor as a product of the PDP and a significant asset to any political party.

He said despite electoral malpractice and manipulations during the 2023 polls, Obi still garnered over six million votes.

“Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP certainly wants to bring him back. He is a huge political capital for any party, and his presence would be a major advantage.

“The truth is, if he had not charted his independent course in the last election and still managed to pull over six million votes despite the rigging and obstructions he faced in many states, it shows he is indeed a formidable political force,” Abdullahi stated.
