The Office of the Immediate Past Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has disowned viral AI-generated videos falsely portraying him as endorsing certain products and money-making schemes.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Mohammed Braimah, Osinbajo’s office condemned the unauthorised use of his image and voice, warning the public against falling for the deceptive content.
“It has come to our attention that the image of the immediate past Vice President, His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, is being used in AI-generated videos to fraudulently promote products and services that are not endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with him in any form whatsoever,” the statement read in part.
The videos allegedly show the former Vice President advertising hypertension medications and a fake money-making scheme — both of which are completely fabricated.
“One video features an image of him advertising hypertension medications, while another uses an AI-generated voice to promote a fraudulent money-making scheme,” the statement added.
The office emphasised that Osinbajo has no connection to the videos or the products being promoted, stressing that the materials are fake and misleading.
“These videos are fraudulent and not endorsed by or affiliated with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo,” it reiterated.
The public was urged to remain vigilant and verify any promotional content, particularly those featuring well-known individuals.
“We advise the general public to remain cautious and always confirm the authenticity of products and services before engaging with them,” the statement concluded.
