Victor Osimhen has lost his status as Africa’s most valuable footballer. Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush now holds the title after a shift in market valuations, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen had led the rankings since 2023 when his value peaked at €120 million. However, his worth has steadily declined. Initially valued at €100 million last summer, his market price dropped to €75 million. After failing to secure a transfer to a major European league, his valuation fell further to €70 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Despite this, Osimhen remains the most valuable player in the Turkish Süper Lig. However, he now ranks second in Africa, with Marmoush overtaking him at €75 million.
Marmoush’s Meteoric Rise
Marmoush has been in outstanding form. He excelled at Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in just 17 Bundesliga matches. His performances earned him a €75 million transfer to Manchester City in January.
Since arriving at the Etihad, he has made an immediate impact. The Egyptian forward has scored four goals and provided one assist in seven Premier League appearances under Pep Guardiola. His contract runs until 2029, cementing his status as Africa’s most valuable player.
Nigeria’s Top Stars in the Rankings
Despite his drop in valuation, Osimhen remains Nigeria’s most valuable footballer. He leads Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman by €10 million. Lookman’s market value has surged from €9 million in 2021 to a career-high €60 million in 2025, placing him fourth among Africa’s elite players.
PSG’s Achraf Hakimi holds third place with a €65 million valuation. Victor Boniface is the only other Nigerian in the top ten. The Bayer Leverkusen striker shares ninth place with Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz, both valued at €45 million.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson hold €55 million valuations, while Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus are each valued at €50 million.
While Osimhen’s stock has dipped, he remains a key figure in African football. However, for now, Marmoush stands at the top of the continent’s elite.
