Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, marked his 99th birthday on Monday with a strong message of optimism. He declared that Nigeria is on the path to transformation and will soon become a source of pride for its people.
Speaking at a special event held in his honour at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Fasoranti said the country now has a real chance to achieve greatness. Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, conveyed his message in an official statement.
“Although Nigeria missed chances to grow in the past, hope is alive. The country is now heading towards progress and greatness,” Fasoranti said.
He credited this shift to the determination of Nigerians and the leadership direction of President Bola Tinubu. According to him, the Renewed Hope Agenda already shows signs of real impact.
Fasoranti recalled Tinubu’s visit before the 2023 election. “He came to me and shared his desire to run for president. I prayed, and the Almighty confirmed that our prayer would be answered. We give glory to the Supreme Being for that,” he said.
Fasoranti also praised the increasing political awareness of the Yoruba people. He believes this will help them play a historic role in the freedom and upliftment of the Black race.
President Tinubu, in his tribute, described Fasoranti as “a model of exemplary leadership.” Several political leaders, traditional rulers, and scholars echoed that praise.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State called Fasoranti “a rare symbol of patriotism, courage and integrity.” Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde said he is “a role model, leader and father who deserves to be celebrated.”
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke described him as “a great asset to the Yoruba race and Nigeria.” Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji praised his “exemplary leadership.”
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun both highlighted Fasoranti’s integrity, courage and devotion to public service.
