Rap icon Nicki Minaj has praised U.S. President Donald Trump for drawing attention to the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, a crisis that has sparked growing international concern.
In a post shared Friday on Truth Social, President Trump described the situation as a “mass slaughter” driven by radical Islamist groups. “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed,” he wrote. “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities occur. We are ready, willing, and able to protect our great Christian population around the world.”
Minaj, who has often spoken openly about her Christian faith, said the president’s message deeply moved her. “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” she shared. “No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs to respect each other.”
She added that the global Christian community deserves more attention and prayer. “Many nations are suffering this horror, and it’s dangerous to act like we don’t see it. Thank you to the president and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian.”
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz also commended Minaj for using her influence to advocate for persecuted believers. “We cannot allow this to continue,” he said. “Every brother and sister in Christ must unite and say, ‘Enough!’”
Reports of widespread violence against Christians in Nigeria have continued to grow. Entire villages have been burned, worshippers attacked during services, and thousands displaced by extremist groups sweeping across the country.
Mark Walker, President Trump’s ambassador-designate for International Religious Freedom, told Fox News Digital that the killings number between 4,000 and 8,000 annually. “This has been happening for years—from ISWAP to Islamist Fulani militias—and the Nigerian government must act decisively,” Walker said.
President Trump announced he has directed lawmakers, including Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), to investigate the crisis and report their findings. He also stated his intent to reclassify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) under the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act—a designation given to nations that engage in or tolerate severe violations of religious liberty.
The House Appropriations Committee echoed the president’s stance, calling Nigeria “the most dangerous nation on Earth to follow Christ.” In a statement, the committee said: “Christians are being kidnapped, attacked, and murdered for their faith. The United States will not tolerate religious persecution. Redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern is a vital step toward confronting extremist violence.”
The committee also pledged to continue legislative efforts once the government shutdown ends, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the president’s priorities.
Fox News Digital reached out to Nicki Minaj’s team for additional comments but did not receive an immediate response.
