The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug kingpins in Lagos after uncovering cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine shipments bound for Europe.
The suspects, Victor Nwosa, 64, and Felix Chika Obiegbu, 49, were apprehended in separate sting operations by the agency’s Special Operations Unit (SOU) after weeks of surveillance.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday, September 28, that Nwosa, who posed as a textile trader, was arrested on September 17 at his Okota residence, where officers recovered 4.33kg of heroin and 448g of cocaine.
Obiegbu, a wine dealer, was arrested on September 11 at his Aguda Surulere home, where 2.9kg of methamphetamine was seized.
Operations in Borno and Yobe
The NDLEA also intercepted drug couriers believed to be supplying narcotics to terrorists and bandits.
In Borno, 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim was arrested on September 27 at Njimtilo village while driving a Mercedes-Benz GLK. Officers discovered 39,380 tramadol and exol-5 pills concealed in the engine.
The same day in Yobe, operatives stopped Halima Adamu along the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway with 1.4kg of Colorado hidden in her luggage. A follow-up raid led to the arrest of Habiba Muhammad at her Baga Road residence in Maiduguri.
NDLEA reported further arrests nationwide:
Kano: Two suspects, Aliyu Sani, 27, and Yahaya Tata, 26, caught with 30,030 tramadol pills along the Zaria-Kano road.
Bayelsa: Three men arrested at Swali jetty, Yenagoa, with 12kg of skunk and 50 cartridges.
Ekiti: Ex-convict Femi Owoeye (alias “Do Good”) arrested at Ikere Ekiti with 32kg of skunk and 10.5g of tramadol. He previously served three years for trafficking.
Kaduna: A Honda Pilot intercepted with 262.6kg of skunk at the Abuja-Kaduna tollgate. Driver Adedamola Olayeni, 56, was arrested. Another suspect, Zubairu Haruna, 30, was caught with 506g of methamphetamine, while a follow-up led to the arrest of Babangida Mohammed, 25, in Gombe.
Lagos (Apapa): Three suspects arrested with 85,100 opioid pills.
Abuja: Opeyemi Ogundipe, 40, arrested with 2.1kg of Colorado along the Abaji-Gwagwalada expressway.
Cannabis Farms Destroyed in Edo
In Edo State, NDLEA destroyed over 24,000kg of cannabis.
At Uromi forest, Esan West LGA, officers cleared nearly five hectares, destroying 12,115kg, and seized an additional 345kg of processed cannabis. Two suspects were arrested.
At Ogu forest, Igueben LGA, NDLEA operatives destroyed 12,031kg across four hectares and evacuated 106kg.
