Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has explained why his son was buried shortly after his death.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, after receiving an injection administered by auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe. He was buried the following day. However, due to public outcry and an ongoing investigation, his body was exhumed by the police on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.
In May 2024, the pathologist handling the autopsy revealed that the cause of death could not be determined because the body had decomposed.
During a recent interview with social media critic VeryDarkMan, Aloba recounted the events surrounding his son’s burial. He said he and the singer’s uncle arranged for an ambulance to take Mohbad’s body to the police station to obtain a report before proceeding to the morgue.
“I couldn’t get close to confirm whether he was truly dead because I was in shock,” he said. “I immediately called Daroosa, Mohbad’s uncle, and told him we needed to get an ambulance to take the body to the police station and then to the morgue.”
According to Aloba, the police allegedly refused to issue the necessary report. He explained that upon arrival, officers asked him to write a statement about what had happened, but he was too distraught and requested that they document his narration instead.
“They began asking me questions while I explained everything, and they wrote it down,” he said. “However, an officer came out and said they wouldn’t give me the report. When I asked why, he replied, ‘When Mohbad died, which police station did you report it to?’ and insisted they would not issue it.”
Aloba further disclosed that he then took the body to a morgue in Ikorodu, where he was told that both a police report and a doctor’s report were required to deposit the remains. He claimed that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, had the doctor’s report but did not provide it or take the necessary steps.
“I was confused about what to do next,” he said. “The morgue attendant told me they could not accept the body without the documents, and I broke down in tears.”
He added that because the morgue refused to accept the body, the ambulance driver left Mohbad’s remains there.
“I was overwhelmed and didn’t know where else to take the body,” Aloba recounted. “I instructed Daroosa to make burial arrangements and walked away. Mohbad’s widow and others were present, but his mother was not there.”
He said he left the morgue around 2 a.m. to go home, and the burial took place later that day around 1 p.m.
“I wasn’t there because, as a father, I couldn’t bear to witness it,” he said. “I wasn’t the one who arranged for the coffin; I only saw it online.”
