Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State and ex-Minister of Defence, completed his registration on Monday at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located on Miller Road in Bompai, Kano, where he also received his party membership card.
The event attracted several prominent political figures, including ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
His defection comes shortly after he announced his resignation from the NNPP on Sunday, citing the need for political realignment.
In a statement, Kwankwaso described his exit as a difficult decision due to his longstanding commitment to the party. However, he noted that the current political landscape requires alignment with a platform better positioned to drive meaningful national change.
He expressed gratitude to the NNPP leadership, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and his supporters for their loyalty and support.
Kwankwaso added that he remains committed to working with like-minded stakeholders toward building a more prosperous future for Nigeria.
