Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda recently opened up about the profound impact of losing his close friend and frequent collaborator, Mohbad. Speaking during a livestream with TikToker Joblaq, he revealed that the tragedy forced him into a period of personal rediscovery.

A Life Reset After Mohbad’s Passing

Shmurda explained that Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, altered his perspective completely. “RIP Mohbad. After he passed away, my brain reset, and everything changed,” he said. He added that he now approaches life with greater clarity and focus.

Reflecting on life lessons, Shmurda shared, “There’s a time when our parents tell us, ‘You’re misbehaving, right? Don’t worry, very soon you will understand.’ I’m currently in that phase where I’m starting to understand certain things.”

The singer emphasized that the loss has shifted his priorities and deepened his appreciation for life, inspiring him to pursue music with renewed purpose and maturity.

Addressing the Portable Controversy

Meanwhile, Bella Shmurda has been involved in a public feud with fellow Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable. During an interview on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast with Isbae U, Shmurda stated that he avoids collaborating with Portable due to differences in music style.

“I just don’t see the connection in the music. I don’t want wahala; I want peace,” Shmurda explained. He also referred to Portable’s controversial lifestyle as a reason for steering clear of potential conflicts.

Portable Responds

In response, Portable posted a video on Instagram, criticizing Shmurda. He labeled him a “failed musician” and insisted he does not collaborate with failures. Portable also warned Shmurda not to mention his name again, boasting about his global influence and claiming Shmurda could not match his level of fame.

Despite the tension, Bella Shmurda maintains that his focus remains on personal growth and meaningful music collaborations. The experience of losing Mohbad, combined with navigating industry disputes, has marked a turning point in his career.

A New Chapter for Bella Shmurda

For Bella Shmurda, Mohbad’s passing is more than a tragic loss, it is a transformative event. While controversies like the Portable feud make headlines, the artist’s journey of self-discovery and focus on peace demonstrates his commitment to evolving both personally and professionally.
