The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that armed bandits attacked a mobile police post in Makuku, Zuru Local Government Area, and escaped with some rifles.
The Director of Security at the Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Zagga, disclosed this to journalists on Saturday. He explained that the mobile police post, manned by visiting officers, came under heavy attack from a large group of bandits. Despite engaging them in a gun battle, the officers were overpowered.
“The bandits burnt a Toyota Hilux patrol vehicle belonging to the unit and made away with an undisclosed number of rifles,” Zagga said.
He clarified that it was a temporary mobile police post, not a police station as reported by some platforms. He added that the officers had to withdraw due to the overwhelming number of attackers.
According to Zagga, upon learning of the incident, the state government sought air support from the Nigerian Air Force, which forced the bandits to retreat. He confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
“Most of these bandits infiltrated from neighboring Zamfara and Niger States,” he revealed, noting that Makuku village shares a border with Niger State, making it more vulnerable.
Zagga stressed that Kebbi State has no peace agreement with any bandit group.
“Once they extort money from a community, they may leave temporarily. But when the money finishes, they move on to another community. That’s why people live in fear,” he added.
