
On Sunday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede, hosted a special Eid-el-Kabir luncheon in Jos, Plateau State, to celebrate frontline troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN.
The event, held at the Headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN, brought together serving and retired senior military officers, as well as other dignitaries, to honour the dedication and sacrifice of soldiers deployed in various operational areas.

“This celebration is not only to mark the Sallah season but also to appreciate your unwavering commitment to defending the nation’s territorial integrity. Your bravery has resulted in relative peace in many parts of the country,” Oluyede said.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support, strategic leadership, and commitment to improving the welfare of military personnel.
Recognition of Troops’ Sacrifices and Family Support
In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, described the luncheon as a gesture to honour the bravery of troops who stay on duty while others celebrate with their families.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as a festival of sacrifice and urged personnel to continue upholding virtues of obedience, faith, and selflessness, principles that define military service.
Oyinlola acknowledged the support of the Army Chief in enhancing operational effectiveness through reinforcements, provision of critical combat resources, and prioritising soldiers’ welfare.
He also commended the families of personnel for their continued encouragement and moral support.
“Our mission remains clear, every Nigerian, regardless of religion or ethnicity, deserves to live in peace and dignity. We are resolute in achieving this,” he declared.
Cultural Displays and Light-hearted Moments
The celebration featured traditional dance performances by the Irigwe New Wave group, a special meal served to troops by senior officers, light-hearted riddles and jokes, and the presentation of souvenirs.
