A powerful political movement may be brewing as leaders of the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA) begin nationwide mobilisation, signaling a bold attempt to upend Nigeria’s political status quo ahead of the 2027 elections.
Prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, are reportedly spearheading the formation of the coalition. Also joining the ranks is Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, alongside other influential stakeholders.
The coalition, united by a shared opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for registration as a political party. Under the banner of ADA, the group hopes to offer Nigerians a credible alternative, promising unity, economic revival, and governance reforms.
Sources say strategic groundwork is already underway across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The campaign aims to attract grassroots support, engage political heavyweights, and align with disillusioned members of both the APC and PDP.
While there were earlier discussions about joining existing parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the group opted to form a new platform due to internal disputes and legal tussles within the smaller parties.
In a formal request to INEC, ADA’s Protem National Chairman, Chief Akin A. Rickets, stated, “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party.”
Though the approval process is still pending, insiders say consultations are intensifying nationwide, with special focus on youth inclusion, regional balance, and forward-looking policies.
Political analysts suggest ADA’s growing momentum could signal a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly among voters seeking alternatives to the dominance of the APC and PDP.
If INEC grants approval, the All Democratic Alliance may emerge as a potent force heading into 2027—potentially reshaping the future of Nigerian politics.
