PDP Accuses APC of Coercing Members Amid Defection Rumours

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using intimidation and inducement to force opposition politicians into defecting.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, made the allegation on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Abuja.

Ologunagba’s remarks followed claims by Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, who alleged that the Governor of Taraba State and another governor from the North West were preparing to join the APC “in a matter of days.”

Responding to the claim, Ologunagba dismissed the reported defections as products of political pressure rather than genuine choice.

“Many of these defections are not voluntary. They are driven by harassment, inducement, coercion, and intimidation. Such moves won’t stand the test of time,” he said.

The PDP spokesman, however, maintained that the party remains strong despite the recent wave of defections.

“A party is not about individuals but the collective will of its members. As some people leave, more are returning because the PDP is reorganizing and regaining strength,” he added.

Ologunagba expressed confidence that Nigerians would continue to identify with the PDP, describing it as a party capable of uniting the country and addressing its challenges.
