Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has argued that no actress in the industry can afford a luxury G-Wagon strictly from acting income.
Solade made the remark during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, as reported by PUNCH Online on Friday.
When asked about actresses who are yet to fully establish themselves but drive exotic cars, he explained that Nollywood attracts people with different motives.
“People come into Nollywood for various reasons. I focus on the core professionals. Nollywood is not a house built by us alone; some of those you mention are tenants. Yes, a few women remain true professionals and live on what they earn from their producers, but I won’t name names,” Solade said.
He stressed that acting alone does not pay enough to fund luxury lifestyles.
“Nobody earns that kind of money from Nollywood to buy the cars you mentioned. I know what I earn. No actress can honestly say she bought a G-Wagon purely with proceeds from acting,” he added.
His comments come amid growing public debate about the source of wealth behind some celebrities’ lavish lifestyles, including luxury cars, mansions, and expensive vacations.
Yemi Solade, widely respected for his blunt views and decades of experience, has starred in numerous Yoruba and English-language films. With a career spanning more than 30 years, he remains one of Nollywood’s most outspoken voices.
