The Kaduna State Government has strongly rejected a recent report that ranked the state among the nation’s highest in kidnapping incidents. Authorities described the publication as misleading, false, and irresponsible.

SB Morgen reported that kidnappers abducted 629 individuals in Kaduna between July 2024 and June 2025. However, the Commissioner-Designate, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, dismissed these figures, stating:

“The attention of the Kaduna State Government has been drawn to recent reports regarding the security situation in the state. The publication alleging that 629 persons were abducted during this period is false and mischievous.”

Kaduna Peace Model Recognized as Successful

The government challenged the SB Morgen report, asserting that it appears designed to discredit the Kaduna Peace Model. This model, championed by Governor Uba Sani, has received praise from security agencies, critical stakeholders, and international organizations for restoring peace and security in previously volatile areas.

Malam Maiyaki highlighted the achievements of the initiative, saying:

“The Kaduna Peace Model has successfully restored stability across all security flashpoints in the state. Over 500,000 hectares of arable land, previously abandoned, are now accessible. Farmers have returned to their fields, and the livestock markets in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas, closed for over a decade, have reopened, revitalizing the local economy.”

Government Urges Public Disregard for False Reports

The Kaduna State Government urged residents to ignore the kidnapping ranking, emphasizing that it does not reflect the current security reality. The authorities warned that sensational publications could undermine the morale of security personnel working tirelessly to safeguard communities.

The statement reiterated the government’s commitment to peace, noting that its multi-faceted strategy combines:

Robust security operations to curb criminal activity,

Community engagement programs to foster trust and cooperation,

Socio-economic empowerment initiatives for vulnerable populations, and

Youth development schemes to tackle the root causes of insecurity.

Security Agencies Record Significant Successes

Dr. Suleiman Shuiabu (SAN), the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, emphasized recent operational successes. In April alone, 34 coordinated operations by security agencies resulted in:

Arrests of 54 high-profile suspects,

Rescue of more than 75 kidnap victims,

Dismantling of several criminal hideouts, with ongoing prosecutions ensuring justice is served.

Dr. Shuiabu also highlighted the government’s non-kinetic approach, including the establishment of the Kaduna Peace Dialogue Group. This platform facilitates negotiations and reintegration for repentant bandits who have surrendered their weapons.

Economic Revival and Community Development

The reopening of the Kara livestock market in Birnin Gwari and the Giwa market, both closed for over ten years due to insecurity, has contributed significantly to local economic growth. Increased agricultural production across the state is another notable success of the Kaduna Peace Model.

“The safety and well-being of our citizens remain paramount. We call on the public to disregard the purported kidnapping ranking and focus on fostering vigilance, resilience, security, and sustainable peace in our state,” the statement concluded.
