Award-winning Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has revealed that she now places financial security above love when choosing romantic partners.
Speaking in a candid interview with UK-based media personality Zeze Millz, Savage admitted that her previous dating history often involved men who were not on the same level in terms of wealth, social status, or fame.
“My friends used to say I was dating down because, financially or status-wise, they weren’t where I am,” she explained. “In the past, I didn’t mind if a man wasn’t making money, as long as there was love. But now, I think I need someone who has money. I’ve tried it the other way for years, so why not try this?”
Tiwa Savage, famous for hits like Koroba, said she no longer wants relationships based solely on emotional connection. Instead, she is open about seeking partners who can match her lifestyle.
“Love is nice, but let’s be real, money matters. I’m not even looking for something long-term right now. Let’s start with financial compatibility. I want to know what it’s like to meet a man at a jetty, board a plane, and fly somewhere together,” she added with a laugh.
Interestingly, the music icon is also considering online dating. “I want to try dating apps. The only problem is, how would I be on there without people recognizing me? But I’m still curious,” she said.
Tiwa, often hailed as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” has built an international career blending hit songs with bold fashion statements.
Past Relationships and Personal Life
In May, she disclosed that she avoids dating Nigerian men due to what she described as a “lack of romance.” The singer married Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun in 2013, and the couple welcomed their son, Jamal, in 2015. They divorced in 2018.
With this shift in her priorities, Tiwa Savage’s relationship standards now reflect a growing trend among celebrities who seek both emotional and financial compatibility.
