The Napoli loanee, who is temporarily at Galatasaray following tensions with Napoli boss Antonio Conte, is available for a reduced fee of around £63 million due to a release clause in his contract. On paper, it’s a bargain, especially for a forward of his caliber. Yet, United appear to be backing away.

At 26, Osimhen’s reputation as a prolific striker makes him an ideal fix for United’s goalscoring issues. However, according to the Manchester Evening News, his wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block. Reports suggest the Nigerian international would command around £9.4 million annually after tax, a figure that could place him among the top earners at Old Trafford.
This poses a challenge for new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is determined to introduce a stricter wage structure at the club. With past regrets over expensive underperformers, United’s hierarchy is now more cautious about high-value deals, even for proven talents.
Gyokeres and Delap: Cheaper Alternatives on United’s Radar
While United continue to assess their options, Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap have emerged as more financially viable alternatives. Delap, in particular, could be signed for a modest £30 million, and possibly less, should Ipswich suffer relegation.
Though neither option may match Osimhen’s international pedigree, both offer cost-effective solutions that align with Ratcliffe’s vision for a leaner, more disciplined wage structure.
Premier League Dream in Doubt as United’s Form Falters
Osimhen, who has been vocal about his desire to play in the Premier League, may have to look beyond the red half of Manchester. United’s poor form this season, including their current mid-table position and uncertainty over European qualification, could deter top players.
With multiple clubs reportedly circling, the race for Osimhen’s signature remains wide open. But unless Manchester United are willing to loosen their financial constraints, the Super Eagles star might never call Old Trafford home.
