Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared that his party is poised to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. According to Adebayo, the SDP has learned from the failures of both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is determined to offer Nigerians a credible alternative.
Speaking in a statement, Adebayo emphasized that the SDP operates with transparency and fairness, steering clear of corrupt practices such as vote-buying and delegate bribery, issues he claimed have plagued both the APC and PDP.
“We don’t bribe delegates, and we don’t manipulate the rules. If you win, we support you. If you lose, we back another candidate. That’s how we operate,” he stated.
Tinubu’s Government Lacks Direction, SDP Leader Says
Adebayo criticized the Tinubu administration, arguing that it lacks the capacity to address Nigeria’s challenges. He accused the government of prioritizing personal gains over the welfare of the people, claiming that its lack of concrete programs would soon cost it public support.
“We knew that once they started sharing the spoils of office, their unity would crumble. Their policies don’t work for the people, and they are losing popularity,” he said.
Adebayo expressed confidence in the SDP’s chances in 2027, highlighting the party’s focus on internal stability and grassroots mobilization.
“While others were scrambling for government positions, we stayed focused. We engaged with Nigerians, and as time goes on, more people will join us. If you are consistent and build a strong foundation, even so-called political experts will eventually recognize your value,” he added.
El-Rufai’s Defection to SDP: A Strategic Move?
Commenting on the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai from the APC to the SDP, Adebayo described him as a “great talent” and welcomed his contributions to the party. However, he maintained that every new entrant must align with the SDP’s principles.
“We don’t question motives. If you say you love Nigeria and want to contribute, you are welcome. But once you join SDP, you must follow the party’s rules and structure,” he noted.
Adebayo reiterated that the SDP is building a political institution that prioritizes governance over personalities, ensuring that the pitfalls that weakened the APC and PDP do not infiltrate his party.
With 2027 on the horizon, Adebayo’s bold statements signal the SDP’s determination to challenge the country’s political status quo. Whether his predictions will materialize remains to be seen, but the party’s confidence in a new political direction is clear.
