Former leader of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Prof. Wale Adeniran, has appealed to Yoruba indigenes to rally behind President Bola Tinubu. He urged them to end public criticisms of his administration.
Adeniran made the call on Sunday during his unveiling as the national leader of a new Yoruba socio-political group, Apapo Egbe Omo Yoruba Oodua l’Agbaye. The event was held at the Obafemi Awolowo University Staff Club, Ile-Ife.
Call for Unity and Support
Speaking with journalists, the former Osun State Commissioner for Education said it was time for Yoruba people to give Tinubu a sense of belonging.
“I call on all true Yoruba sons and daughters to stop any further attack on President Bola Tinubu,” Adeniran said. “We must rally around him, ensure stability, and work together for his re-election in 2027.”
He also urged traditional rulers to settle internal disputes. According to him, such conflicts weaken the Yoruba nation’s image.
New Movement, New Agenda
Adeniran stressed that his new group is not a separatist body. Instead, it is a platform to defend Yoruba interests at home and abroad.
He explained that the Apapo Egbe Omo Yoruba Oodua l’Agbaye would focus on restructuring Nigeria and demanding a people-driven constitution.
He criticised the 1999 Constitution, describing it as a “military product” that fails to reflect Nigeria’s diversity.
Push for State Police and Yoruba Language
On security, Adeniran endorsed the creation of state police. He praised Tinubu for supporting the idea and asked the National Assembly to amend sections of the Constitution to back it.
He also tasked governors in Yoruba-speaking states to prioritise citizens’ welfare, especially with the rise in federal allocations.
The group further demanded that from 2026, Yoruba should become the sole medium of instruction in all primary schools across Yorubaland. It also insisted the language must be compulsory in secondary schools.
