Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted two suspected drug traffickers who allegedly attempted to smuggle cocaine and opioids by concealing them on their bodies and inside a fake pregnancy.

One of the suspects, a 35-year-old Kano-based businesswoman, Rabi Muhammad, was arrested at the Seme border while attempting to travel to Cotonou, Benin Republic, on Monday, February 16, 2026.

According to the agency, officers became suspicious after noticing her unusually large stomach at the departure area of the border. A subsequent search revealed that she was not pregnant.

The NDLEA stated that the pregnancy was fake, explaining that she had strapped a pink-coloured calabash to her stomach to simulate a baby bump.

A video posted by Sadiq Muhammad, the spokesman of the NDLEA Seme Command, on Facebook showed the woman being searched and the fake pregnancy being removed.

Inside the container were 3,200 capsules of tramadol, which she was allegedly transporting to Cotonou for sale.

The agency said the arrest forms part of its ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking through Nigeria’s borders and airports.
