The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at his critics within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying many of those who once accused him of undermining the party have now defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Wednesday during the flag-off of the construction of the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road I to Ring Road II in Abuja, Wike said the same politicians who labeled him an agent of the APC are now openly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“It has never been like this before. Regardless of their party, everyone seems to be working together to support this administration,” Wike said. “I’ve been watching television and social media where people said I wanted to destabilize the PDP or that I was working for the APC. Ironically, they are all now in the APC. They should commend me for working for where they are heading to—I’ve done a good job for them.”
His remarks come amid a wave of defections from the PDP, including that of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and former PDP National Youth Leader Sunday Udeh-Okoye, both of whom recently joined the APC.
Udeh-Okoye, who once contested the PDP National Secretary position against Wike’s ally, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television that the Southeast has now “found a home” in the APC.
Wike’s comments appear to highlight a new era of political realignment, as former PDP heavyweights continue to cross over to the ruling party while aligning with Tinubu’s government.
