Popular Nigerian comic actor Afeez Oyetoro, widely known as Saka, has opened up on why he got married at the age of 40.

Speaking in a recent interview on WithChude, the 61-year-old entertainer revealed that his lack of confidence and financial instability delayed his marriage.

According to Saka, his mentors never taught him the business side of acting, which left him financially unprepared for marriage despite his passion for theatre.

“I didn’t have confidence. It took me a long time to start approaching women. My profession and myself delayed my marriage. In theatre back then, there was no money. Nobody recognised artistes. We were just acting out of passion, and the worst part was that they didn’t teach us how to make money from it,” he said.

He also recalled how a woman he planned to marry insisted he must own two cars before their wedding, which made him realise she wasn’t his destined partner.

“When I finished school, I had no car, nothing. When you approached a girl, she would look at you like you had no future. One of them even told me, ‘Afeez, you are wasting your life. Leave theatre and do something meaningful’.

“The one I was supposed to marry said I must have two cars before marrying her. Something told me, ‘Afeez, this is not your wife’. So I ran away. It wasn’t until I got to college that I eventually got married.”

Saka, known for his hilarious roles in Nollywood, studied Theatre Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Ibadan. He married his wife, Olaide Oyetoro, in 2003, and their marriage is blessed with three children.
