Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry has revealed that he had to terminate his aunt’s employment because she failed to take her job seriously.
Speaking in a sit-down conversation on the YouTube series Den of Kings, hosted by gospel singer Kirk Franklin, Perry explained that he initially offered his aunt a job to help her attain financial stability rather than simply giving her money.
However, when she started skipping work and displayed a poor attitude towards her responsibilities, Perry said he had no choice but to let her go.
“I fired my aunt. She always called asking for money, and I would send it to her. Eventually, I told her, ‘I want to help you build something, not just hand you money like welfare. So, let me give you a job,’” he said.
“But when she wasn’t showing up to work, I told her, ‘You have to go. You want the money, but you don’t want to work for it. That doesn’t work for me.’”
According to Perry, he believes in empowering people to create their own stability instead of giving them handouts that could ultimately limit their growth.
“I don’t believe in giving people things that will handicap them. That’s the worst thing you can do. I told them I wouldn’t continue supporting them like that,” he added.
