Tinubu Urged to Support Senator Sani Musa as Ganduje’s Replacement, Cede APC Chairmanship to North Central

A political pressure group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to endorse Senator Mohammed Sani Musa as the party’s next national chairman following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje.

Naija News recalls that Ganduje abruptly resigned, citing ill health in a letter submitted to the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru. His resignation was formally confirmed in a statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka.

In a statement jointly signed by its President, Matthias Ikani, and Secretary General, Moses Audu, the North Central APC Accord described Senator Musa as “the most credible and unifying option” for the party at this critical time.

The group urged the APC leadership to cede the national chairmanship to the North Central zone in the interest of fairness, stability, and internal cohesion.

“This call is not based on mere sentiment but stems from our conviction that Senator Sani Musa represents the future of progressive leadership in the APC. He is calm, visionary, tested, and trusted. At a time when the party requires healing and national balance, Senator Musa is the bridge between its legacy and future,” the statement read.

Strategic Zone

The group noted that the North Central remains one of the most loyal and consistent support bases for the APC, delivering crucial victories in national elections despite being consistently overlooked in the zoning of strategic positions, including the chairmanship.

“This is a matter of equity and justice. Our region has played a key role in building and sustaining the party since the CPC-ACN merger, yet the North Central has never produced a substantive national chairman. With this vacancy, it is timely and just that we are given the opportunity to lead — and Senator Musa is best positioned to take up that mantle,” the group said.

Avoiding a Fractured Party

They warned that imposing a chairman from outside the zone or one lacking grassroots acceptance could further fracture the party and weaken public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our democracy is maturing, and the APC must reflect that maturity. Leadership cannot be reduced to mere rewards or survival tactics. It must reflect balance, inclusion, and merit. Senator Musa is a safe pair of hands who will not alienate key blocs and who understands the national character of the party,” the statement added.

The group appealed to President Tinubu to lead by example by supporting fairness, inclusion, and internal democracy.

“The President has a historic opportunity to reinforce party unity by supporting a process that is inclusive and consultative. We know the legacy Mr President seeks to leave behind. Supporting Senator Musa as national chairman is a firm step in that direction,” it stated.

Integrity and Loyalty

The North Central APC Accord called on stakeholders across the six geopolitical zones to restore integrity, loyalty, and inclusiveness in party leadership, warning against a return to divisive politics and elite capture.

“We are not asking for favours. We are demanding what is right for the North Central and the APC. We do not want a party driven by the whims of a few but one led by visionaries who will secure its future,” the group concluded.
