President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today, Saturday, host the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The event, which marks the second and final day of the summit, comes ahead of the 67th Ordinary Summit of ECOWAS leaders, also scheduled to take place today at the State House Conference Centre.
WAES, initiated by President Tinubu in his role as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, aims to drive deeper regional economic integration. The summit is focused on boosting trade and investment cooperation across West Africa.
Confirmed attendees include the presidents of Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, The Gambia, Benin, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau. Key expectations from the summit include concrete policy actions and regional strategies to advance peace, security, and shared prosperity.
Ministers from ECOWAS countries handling Finance, Trade, Infrastructure, and Foreign Affairs are also participating, alongside representatives from key regional and continental institutions such as WAMA, WAMI, EBID, UEMOA, and the AfCFTA Secretariat.
The summit also features private sector stakeholders, development partners, and economic experts.
In a move to foster broader regional dialogue, President Tinubu extended invitations to the Alliance of Sahelian States and Mauritania. Ahead of the event, he deployed special envoys led by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye to deliver formal invitations to heads of government across the region.
