Suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group have reportedly killed an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) during an attack on a customs camp in Maje, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to local sources, the assailants stormed the camp in large numbers on Sunday night, firing sporadically before setting the facility ablaze. “The Lakurawa came in large numbers and started shooting at the officers. They later set the camp on fire and killed one of them,” a resident said.
As of press time, the Kebbi Area Command of the NCS had not released an official statement. However, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Tajudeen, confirmed the incident.
“The attack actually happened, but only the doctors can confirm if the officer is dead or not. We are currently at the hospital waiting for the medical report,” Tajudeen stated.
The attack comes barely a week after terrorists abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, in the same local government area.
Residents told reporters that several facilities at the customs camp were destroyed during the assault, leaving the area in ruins.
