Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria after authorities removed his name from the wanted list.

Igboho came back from self-imposed exile in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Supporters, Muslim clerics, and residents welcomed him at his Soka home in Ibadan. They offered prayers for his safe return and for President Bola Tinubu and traditional rulers who intervened in his case.

Speaking emotionally, Igboho recalled his ordeal under the previous administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari. He said officials declared him wanted, denied him a Nigerian passport, and froze his bank accounts despite court rulings in his favour.

Igboho fled Nigeria on July 1, 2021, after a joint operation by the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army raided his Ibadan residence over alleged arms stockpiling. He briefly returned in 2024 for his mother’s burial.

After arriving, Igboho visited the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, where supporters received him warmly. Oba Ladoja welcomed him and prayed for his success.

Expressing gratitude, Igboho thanked God, President Tinubu, and Oba Ladoja for their roles in securing his freedom. He said Oba Ladoja consistently checked on him while he was in Cotonou and engaged Yoruba elders and national leaders on his behalf.

Igboho urged Yoruba people to remain united to advance the region’s development. He also expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s efforts to improve security nationwide.
