Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has urged Nigerians to stop relying solely on hope and instead take decisive political action to change the country’s trajectory.
Speaking on Rubbin’ Minds, a Channels Television programme hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Sowore said many Nigerians are already experiencing “hell on earth” due to years of failed governance.
“Hope alone is not enough,” he said. “You must embrace reality and fight for a future that inspires hope—hope built on progress, not just wishful thinking.”
Sowore rejected the idea of passive endurance, stressing that meaningful change only comes through action.
“There’s no country in the world where people just hang on to hope. That’s for those thinking about a different planet called heaven,” he stated. “Even those hoping for heaven are told to fight for what’s right here on earth.”
On the current state of the nation, Sowore said Nigerians should not have to suffer both in life and after death.
“It’s why I often say—today is Sunday—that Nigerians can’t go to hell. We’ve lived in hell for so long already, there’s no point going back there,” he said.
2027 Presidential Race: Will Sowore Run Again?
When asked if he plans to contest in the 2027 presidential elections, Sowore stopped short of a formal declaration but hinted at a possible return.
“I knew you’d ask that question,” he said with a smile. “We’ll have to come back on your show when we’re ready.”
He added that for him, politics isn’t seasonal—it’s a way of life.
“Politics is what I do, breathe, and talk about. People think I’m always negative, but I’ve provided the best solutions—even on this show.”
Sowore concluded by encouraging Nigerians to pay attention to constructive ideas and credible voices.
“People must now start turning to the right channels to hear ideas, not empty ideals that haven’t worked.”
