President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed several prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Southern Kaduna into the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the region.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu received the defectors at a grand rally on Saturday in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area.
Among those who joined the ruling party were Senator Sunday Katung (PDP–Kaduna South), Rep. Daniel Amos (PDP–Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency), and Ali Kalat, the member representing Jema’a Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Tinubu described the defections as a testament to the increasing acceptance of the APC across Kaduna State and Nigeria. He praised Governor Uba Sani for his leadership and urged him to continue promoting unity and strengthening the party’s structure in the state.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, hailed the event as a historic political moment for Southern Kaduna, long seen as a PDP stronghold.
“For decades, they claimed ownership of your loyalty, your dreams, and your destiny. But today, that claim has ended, and the people have reclaimed their power,” Tajudeen said. He described the APC as a party founded on unity, inclusion, and progress.
Governor Uba Sani echoed similar sentiments, calling the mass defection a “new dawn” for Southern Kaduna and the nation at large. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fairness, justice, and inclusive governance.
“Elections may divide, but governance must unite,” he said, adding that his government remains focused on development and service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Senator Katung and Rep. Amos said their move was inspired by President Tinubu’s developmental agenda, particularly in Southern Kaduna. They noted that their decision followed extensive consultations with constituents who endorsed the switch to the APC in hopes of attracting more projects and opportunities to the zone.
They pledged to leverage their experience and influence to strengthen the APC’s presence in Southern Kaduna and beyond.
With these high-profile defections, the political landscape in Southern Kaduna — once a PDP fortress — now tilts firmly in favor of the ruling APC.
