The Sokoto State Government has denied reports suggesting that Governor Ahmed Aliyu accompanied his Abia State counterpart, Alex Otti, to visit Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, described the report as false and misleading, stressing that Governor Aliyu was not in Nigeria at the time the alleged visit took place.

According to Bawa, the governor had been in Saudi Arabia on a lesser hajj pilgrimage since November 30, 2025, which coincided with the period Governor Otti was in Sokoto for a private engagement.

He explained that Otti was received at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport by selected commissioners and special advisers, who later escorted him to Government House for the usual courtesy visit accorded to visiting governors.

The state government reaffirmed that Sokoto upholds a long-standing culture of hospitality, treating all visitors with respect, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or region.

It also emphasised that Governor Aliyu remains committed to peace, respect for constituted authority, and the unity and stability of Nigeria.
