Sevilla’s Akor Adams has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season following a serious thigh injury sustained in the club’s 2-1 loss to Atlético Madrid, as confirmed by Soccernet.ng.
The 25-year-old Nigerian forward, who joined the Andalusian side from Montpellier for €5.5 million in January, is sidelined with a rectus femoris muscle injury in his right thigh. Sevilla’s medical staff have stated that Adams will be out for at least two months, effectively bringing his season to a premature end.
“Adams will begin his recovery process this Wednesday,” Sevilla’s medical team revealed in an official statement.
A Challenging Start to Life in Spain
This setback is a significant blow for both Adams and the club. Signed during the winter transfer window to bolster Sevilla’s attack amidst a relegation battle, Adams has faced a series of challenges since arriving in Spain. After making his debut on February 1 in a 0-0 draw against Getafe, he suffered an injury just days later, keeping him sidelined for more than five weeks. His return saw limited appearances, with just three matches played, against Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis, and Atlético Madrid, but without a goal to his name.
Sevilla’s Survival Hopes and Adams’ Future
Despite these struggles, Sevilla holds an eight-point cushion above the relegation zone, largely thanks to favorable results elsewhere, including a draw between Leganés and Osasuna. However, the club’s margin for error is now tightening.
Adams, who made 47 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier, scoring 11 goals and contributing two assists, had been expected to make an immediate impact in La Liga. Instead, the former Flying Eagles star has only featured in four La Liga games, starting just once and coming off the bench three times. His most recent appearance was a full 90-minute outing against Atlético Madrid on April 6.
