…Senator Magnus Abe says Delta leaders’ move to APC shows Nigeria’s democracy is thriving under President Tinubu.
Senator Magnus Abe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, says the defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire state cabinet to the APC will significantly bolster the party’s base in the South-South region.
Abe, who chairs the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), made this known in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Parry Benson.
He described the move as evidence that Nigeria’s democracy is thriving under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
“Democracy flourishes when every citizen enjoys genuine freedom of association and choice,” Abe said.
According to him, President Tinubu’s administration has increased resources to states, enabling serious-minded governors to better serve their people.
“This is the merit Sheriff Oborevwori and his team have recognized. Their decision to move Delta State closer to the centre is a step in the right direction, and I commend them,” Abe stated.
He compared the development to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007 while still in office, arguing that Oborevwori and Okowa’s move is appropriate and will ultimately benefit Delta and the wider South-South.
Abe also dismissed claims that President Tinubu is fostering a one-party state, urging critics to stop playing the victim.
“It is not the responsibility of President Tinubu or the APC to build an opposition against themselves,” he said.
He called on Delta APC leaders, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Festus Keyamo, and Chief Ayeni, to unite in supporting Oborevwori and his team to ensure their smooth integration into the party.
Abe emphasized that the APC under Tinubu remains broad and inclusive enough to accommodate all Nigerians.
