The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has stated that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was expelled and barred from the party for a period of 30 years over allegations of forgery and misrepresentation.
According to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), El-Rufai was never officially a member of the SDP, as he failed to fulfill the legal requirement of registering at his ward level. Despite publicly associating himself with the party on social media, the SDP maintains that there is no evidence of formal registration.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the SDP accused El-Rufai of falsifying party documents.
The statement read:
“Following a thorough investigation, it was confirmed that the Kaduna State chapter of the SDP was correct in asserting that Nasir El-Rufai had not properly joined the party. Instead of registering through the legally recognized Ward Executives, he allegedly forged membership documents and unilaterally declared himself as ‘Number 001’ on the SDP membership register of Unguwar Sarki Ward in Kaduna North Local Government Area. This act disregards all official and up-to-date records of the party in Kaduna State.”
The party emphasized that such conduct is contrary to its constitution and procedures, thereby justifying the disciplinary action taken against the former governor.
