Rivers SSG Warns: Don’t Mistake Fubara’s Calmness for Weakness

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has cautioned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s calm and diplomatic approach to governance should not be mistaken for weakness.

Danagogo’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions and criticism from opponents, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The feud between both camps escalated after Danagogo signed a letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting with Governor Fubara, an action Wike publicly dismissed as “useless.”

SSG Defends His Actions

Addressing journalists during the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Danagogo defended his role, stating that issuing such a letter falls within his official duties. He emphasized that similar actions were taken during Wike’s own administration, where he also served as SSG, and questioned why it is now being considered inappropriate.

“There is nothing unusual about an SSG communicating with lawmakers for an informal meeting with the Governor,” he clarified. “This is standard administrative practice, and it is unfortunate that it is being misrepresented.”

Danagogo further stressed that his defense was not politically driven but aimed at ensuring the facts were correctly presented to the public.

Commending Fubara’s Restraint Amid Political Tensions

The SSG also praised Governor Fubara for exercising restraint despite increasing political pressure. He pointed to the recent incident where the Rivers State Assembly complex was locked, preventing the Governor from presenting the state’s budget.

“In similar situations, some past governors might have taken drastic actions, but Fubara remains committed to peace and stability,” Danagogo remarked.

He reassured the people of Rivers State that the administration remains focused on their well-being and economic stability, rather than engaging in political battles.

Governor Fubara’s Commitment to Stability

Danagogo emphasized that Fubara’s decision to avoid confrontational politics is rooted in his desire to maintain social and economic stability in the state. According to him, the Governor is determined to implement policies that uplift the people rather than plunge them into hardship.

“The people of Rivers State should rest assured that this administration is focused on governance, not unnecessary conflicts,” he concluded.

With the political climate in Rivers State becoming increasingly charged, it remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will navigate the challenges ahead while maintaining his stance on peaceful leadership.
