A senior figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Joe Korka-Waadah, has urged political opponents of former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, to stop dragging his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, into political disputes.
Korka-Waadah, Executive Director of Compassionate Heart Foundation in Canada, made this statement in response to recent verbal attacks. The attacks suggested the North would not support Amaechi in the 2027 elections.
He said critics who have issues with Amaechi can express them directly. However, involving his wife in political battles is unnecessary and unacceptable.
According to him, some detractors seek cheap popularity by attacking Mrs Amaechi to get at her husband. He stressed that such tactics will not weaken Amaechi’s strong national support or his capacity to deliver good governance.
“What is not acceptable,” he stated, “is using Mrs Amaechi’s name as a weapon. She has spent her adult life empowering people from diverse backgrounds.”
Judith Amaechi’s Independent Achievements
Korka-Waadah praised Dame Judith Amaechi for her work and independence. He noted that she built a successful business career long before her husband became Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He also questioned why anyone would attack a man who transformed Rivers State as governor. Furthermore, Amaechi made notable improvements in Nigeria’s transportation sector during his time as minister.
Amaechi’s National Support and 2027 Ambition
The APC chieftain said Amaechi enjoys support from across Nigeria, North, South, East, and West. He attributed this to the former minister’s integrity and his contributions to nation-building.
“Yes, he can perform. His integrity is proven,” Korka-Waadah affirmed. “He has already signalled his intention to contest in 2027. Having a capable and accomplished wife is an advantage rivals cannot match.”
He concluded that smear campaigns against Amaechi and his wife will fail. Therefore, those who fear his political rise should find better strategies instead of resorting to petty politics.
