Renowned Nigerian film and stage producer, Kayode Peters, has reportedly died in Canada.
The sad news was confirmed on Friday by veteran comedian Steve Onu, popularly known as Yaw, during a chat with Peoples Gazette.
Though details of his death remain unclear, Yaw confirmed the loss, saying he has been trying to reach Peters’ brother for more information.
“Yes, he is,” Yaw replied when asked if Peters had passed. “I am still trying to speak with his brother but he is not picking.”
Kayode Peters was widely celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to Nigeria’s television and theatre industry. He gained fame for directing and producing hit sitcoms and stage plays, including Extended Family and the early 2000s classic comedy series Flatmates. His works paved the way for many actors and comedians in the industry.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has also lost billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.
The elder statesman died at the age of 94, with his death announced on Saturday by his Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid.
“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. The Janazah details will be shared later insha Allah,” Junaid wrote.
Alhaji Dantata was the founder of Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd and played a significant role in establishing Nigeria’s first Islamic bank, Jaiz Bank. He was also a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee that prepared Nigeria’s 1979 Constitution.
