Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, recently met with Alabi Quadri, a young supporter who became a national symbol of bravery during the 2023 elections. Quadri gained widespread attention when he courageously stood in front of Obi’s campaign convoy, drawing admiration for his bold stand.

Legal Battle and Acquittal of Alabi Quadri

However, in 2025, Quadri’s name resurfaced under tragic circumstances. Reports emerged that he had been wrongfully detained at Kirikiri Prison on charges of felony and armed robbery. The news sparked outrage, prompting Obi to take swift action, instructing lawyer Inibehe Effiong to investigate the case.

Thanks to legal intervention, the Apapa Magistrate Court in Lagos acquitted and discharged Quadri on Thursday, clearing him of all charges. In a statement following his release, the teenager shared his wish to return to school and continue his education.

Obi’s Commitment to Quadri’s Education and Justice

On Friday, Obi revealed he had met with Quadri, pledging to support his educational journey. Obi expressed deep gratitude to the legal team, led by Effiong, as well as other key figures like Dele Farotimi and Hassana Nurudeen, whose relentless efforts helped secure justice for Quadri.

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Obi emphasized the importance of holding those responsible for Quadri’s wrongful imprisonment accountable. He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the young boy’s educational aspirations are fulfilled.

“I met with Quadri today, and his desire for education is truly inspiring,” Obi said. “Despite all he has been through, his dream remains to return to school, and I am determined to make that happen.”

Obi also used the occasion to reiterate the broader message of justice, urging that Nigeria must stand firm in its pursuit of fairness, rule of law, and the protection of its vulnerable citizens. His statement called for a Nigeria where education, justice, and integrity are the cornerstones of society.

In closing, Obi thanked everyone who played a role in Quadri’s release, underscoring that the fight for justice must continue, with accountability being essential in building a better future for all Nigerians.
