Labour Party’s Peter Obi says he is ready to serve only one term as president if his party’s coalition demands it, promising to hand over to the North in 2031.
Speaking during an XSpace session tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts with over 10,000 listeners, Obi stressed that integrity matters more to him than power.
“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031, not even May 29. I’m not desperate to be president. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work,” he said.
Obi slammed President Tinubu’s recent St. Lucia trip, calling it misplaced priority when Nigeria is battling killings and hardship.
“You can’t travel around the world when people are being buried at home,” he stated.
On reports of a joint ticket with Atiku in 2027, Obi denied any such plans, insisting his focus is on fixing Nigeria, not sharing power.
“If the coalition is just about tickets, count me out. I want a coalition that stops the killings and puts food on people’s tables,” he declared.
Obi ended by saying leadership is about compassion, not luxury, adding: “I don’t want to be president to decorate my CV. I want to show leadership can be different – and effective.”
