The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against any attempts to manipulate the 2027 elections.
No Excuses for BVAS Glitches
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stressed that Nigerians would not accept excuses of “technical glitches” in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, he said the party is committed to ensuring a transparent electoral process.
Ologunagba stated:
“We as a party will take charge. Nigerians will not accept stories about glitches. There must be none because the country’s infrastructure can support it. If POS systems function in the remotest areas, BVAS should too.
“The 2027 elections must be seamless, free, fair, transparent, and credible. Any attempt to restrict Nigerians’ rights to choose their leaders will be resisted.”
Accusations Against APC and President Tinubu
The PDP also accused President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of “endorsement shopping,” fearing the party’s growing influence ahead of the polls.
Ologunagba said:
“If the president and APC were truly performing, their work should speak for itself. Nigerians know APC has failed. Citizens are struggling to feed their families, pay school fees, and face anxiety over new taxes, including the proposed five percent levy on petroleum products. That is not governance; that is panic.”
He added that the APC is sustaining “a pyramid of lies” and failing to deliver on promises that would improve the lives of Nigerians.
Election Credibility Hinges on INEC
The PDP spokesman emphasized that the credibility of the 2027 elections depends on INEC’s ability to transmit results from polling units in real time.
“If POS works in every village, BVAS should work too. Any failure would amount to institutional manipulation. Nigerians are wiser now,” he concluded.
