The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has called on former Governor Ayodele Fayose to formally exit the party, accusing him of engaging in persistent anti-party activities and public disparagement of the PDP.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Chairman of the party’s caretaker committee in the state, Dare Adeleke, condemned Fayose’s repeated criticism of the PDP, stating that his actions would no longer be tolerated.

This development follows Fayose’s appearance on Channels Television, where he declared that the PDP, both in Ekiti and nationally, was defunct and incapable of winning any election. Adeleke described the comment as a betrayal of the party that twice offered Fayose the platform to become governor.

“If he no longer believes in the PDP, he should do the honourable thing and resign,” Adeleke stated. “His consistent public condemnation of the party is a disservice to its members and legacy.”

Adeleke further accused Fayose of undermining the party by openly supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Ekiti, labeling it a “treacherous” pattern of behavior.

According to him, Fayose’s grievances stem from the party’s refusal to allow him control over the PDP structure in the state. “His bitterness began when his attempts to seize the party’s leadership were firmly resisted by stakeholders,” Adeleke said.

He added, “Fayose keeps calling the PDP a ‘dead party’ yet refuses to leave. That contradiction exposes his self-interest. He acts like a soldier who betrays his own camp and then demands a promotion.”

The caretaker chairman also noted that Fayose admitted to supporting President Bola Tinubu solely based on personal and ethnic ties, questioning his commitment to democratic values.

“His lobbying for control of two local government executives was rejected, and now he lashes out. If he were truly as influential as he claims, he would have led the PDP structure in Ekiti into another party. But not a single ward chairman or local government executive followed him,” Adeleke stated.

The PDP reiterated its commitment to rebuilding its base in Ekiti and warned that actions aimed at sabotaging its efforts from within would be met with firm resistance.
